Seeking pro guidance
Hey all! I'm trying to get my first grow (and hopefully 2nd and 3rd) done before a festival (just for friends and I to enjoy). I have enjoyed getting into the hobby and I regret that my first grows feel rushed because I have a deadline, but alas, such is life.
Here is my situation:
A) I have my first batch of PF cakes beginning their second flush. Everything went well the whole process, but for some reason I only got about 7g from first "flush". And honestly, after dunking them for a night, they smelled a little funky (even though they smelled gloriously mushroomy the day before). I'm worried I won't get much more from them.
-
I have a second batch of 10 PF cakes that are probably 3-4 days away from full colonization (and then a week for consolidation).
-
I have 6 quart WBS jars that are about 80% colonized (if not, more). I lost 4 so far to contamination (which I think may be the ones from the batch from the pressure cooker that impatiently vented so I could open faster). By the way, different strain than the cakes.
-
I really want at least an ounce to be ready for eating by Sept. 3rd (when this festival is).
-
I have a (currently in use) SGFC and planned on buying another container to make a monotub. I have no experience with grains yet aside from this first inoculation. I also have never broken cakes up, cased anything, spawned a bulk substrate, etc. But I'm willing to try anything that doesn't involve too many more expenses (except for casing materials, if it comes to that).
What are my best chances at getting at least an ounce by then? I'm willing to even accept some lower yields if it is because the process is faster. Honestly, my first set of BRF cakes took 16 days to pin in my SGFC (even after giving them a consolidation week). I just don't have that time.
I figured spawning to bulk would give me a higher yield, but I have wait again for more substrate to inoculate. I've seen mention of trays, but am not quite sure how that works.
Any pro thoughts? Of course these are living things and no one can give me guarantees, but what decision would some of you more experienced growers make in my stead?
