Beginner's Guide to WoW?

I want to start playing WoW as a full time thing now, but I don't know a lot about the gameplay mechanics like crafting or transmog. Why even craft when you just get better items from drops anyway? And also, is the subscription worth the time I have to put in to get my characters ready for raiding and for Legion to come out?
