Plex behind a VPN on OS X Solution!

Tips

I have had the worst time trying to get Plex to work (remote access) while my OS X had a VPN running.

Since I'm on Mac (I assume Linux would also do it), whenever my LT2P/IPSEC VPN connects it runs '/bin/bash /etc/ppp/ip-up' as a system level script. I put the following in ip-up:

DEFAULT_GW="192.168.1.1"

PLEX_IP_ADDS=$( dig +noall +answer plex.tv | cut -f6 )

for IP_ADDS in ${PLEX_IP_ADDS}; do route add ${IP_ADDS} ${DEFAULT_GW} done

This basically ensures that all the IP Addresses for Plex are resolved, and adds special routes for traffic so that outbound traffic going to any plex IP address uses the standard gateway instead of the VPN gateway. It makes the remote access work! It also runs every time the VPN restarts for any reason, so it should stay functional even if Plex gets new addresses from amazon's cloud.
