Looking to visit your fine state by train, have some questions.

Hey guys, the wife and I have never been further west than OH and have decided to fix that before the year is up. We know jackety-squat about what we're getting into other than we know CA is probably too much for us, between the fires and the traffic anyway. So, we're thinking either you folks, or WA (and honestly it'll probably be both before the week is up but we're looking for a sort of home base).

We're coming by train and we're still on the fence about whether we'll be renting a car. So our choices for touchdown are Albany, Chemult, Eugene, Klamath Falls, Oregon City, Salem, and Portland. Where would you recommend for a sort of low-key lower-middle class couple that's not particularly touristy (we live in a tourist trap so we're very conscious of being decent when we go out) to get a good taste of what we're missing out here in the land of oppressive humidity? And then what the heck would we do there?

Some help, I guess: We're not hipsters but we're not specifically hipster averse. We're not hikers but we're not nature averse. We like music (everything from metal to avant-garde Jazz), comedy, science, etc and we don't drink but not for any real reason. We're both pretty much 30. And I'm tempted to visit Klamath because of my love for Fallout 2 but I know that is a silly, silly idea.

Thanks in advance.
