[Spoilers All] A Certain Thaig from DA2 and The Descent
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR DA2, DA:I, AND THE DESCENT IN PARTICULAR. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
I admittedly do not have a fully fleshed out theory to how everything connects, but it's worth noting that there are several parallels between the Primeval Thaig from DA2 and many of the lore revelations in The Descent.
Things we know:
-
Lyrium is alive an can be infected by the blight.
-
Lyrium is something akin to the blood of Titans
-
A Titan is some kind of... thing? That's alive, and can shape the earth. But that's not quite as important as....
-
The dwarves who are connected to a Titan are referred to as "The Pure", and generally have some connection to the Titan's lyrium.
-
The dwarven civilization that served/is connected to the Titan predates dwarven history as we know it.
You know what else is some dwarven remnant that predates known history? The primeval thaig. Which was the first place we found infected/blighted lyrium.
The primeval thaig was inhabited by rock wraiths known as the Profane. Rock wraiths are speculated to be dwarves "so corrupt that the stone rejects them". Can you see where I'm going with this..?
There is a pretty clear symbolic connection in the names here. Profane is the opposite of Pure. So I, like others, propose that a Titan was infected by the blight, creating red lyrium. But beyond that, its dwarves, imbibers of its lyrium, were corrupted, and became the Profane.
The corrupted Titan exists, and it's under Kirkwall.
EDIT: Thinking more, one thing about this still bothers me. The demon in the primeval thaig stated it feeds off the hunger of the profane. Given that we know that at least the revered defenders and probably the pure imbibed lyrium, i'd imagine that the "hunger" comes from the fact that they've for one reason or another stopped taking lyrium, much like withdrawal effects for templars.
Why would that happen? Did the corrupted titan leave? CAN titans move? I don't know man.
