Looking for reviews of REALLY big boy lathes - looking to upgrade my Nova 2024.
Hello, r/turning! I have recently been having a ton of trouble with my beloved Nova 2024 sorta falling apart a bit. That's fine - I've had it for two and a half, almost three years and I've used it a ton, but the thing that's drawing me away is the lack of customer service... I used to have the best experiences I could ask for with them, but it's not been 4 weeks without reply and 2 weeks again without a reply.
SO. I'm kinda mulling around upgrading my lathe. I've been looking at that Laguna Revo (I own a lot of Laguna stuff, including one of their CNCs, all of which I love), the Powermatic because it IS the Gold Standard, a Oneway as well as Robust... Price is a concern, but not a driving point at this stage.
I fussed with the Laguna and was VERY impressed and I played with the PM right next to it and was pretty impressed. My other Powermatic tools are sturdy and nice. No real complaints.
So, what do y'all have? What would you suggest for this pinnacle lathe purchase? I turn mostly bowls, some pens, platters and most of my stuff starts VERY rough so a big heavy lathe is important.
