Entropy

I can hear the desperate faces, struggling for the bottom of an empty ladder.

Wind caresses stone, lovingly; like a mother to her mountain.

The fall drains everything but my patience.

Soil begins to fatten and betrays a drowning health.

Skin flows like silk once more, dry hunger ravaged by oceans of neglect.

Ambers and golds fulminate the path; waves of laughter walk it darkly in my mouth.

Melodies creep from the leaves, branches become cradles.

This music box requires neither winder nor craftsman.

A deep reservoir of memories is here, muddled by dirt and the chilled air.

Hands melt into the welcoming embrace of the assault.

And for the briefest of moments, everything is alive again.

Grey overtakes this reprieve, a new piece is about to play.

The warmth reminds me before departing,

‘There was a man who lived once.’

Water ignites the air, I breathe it in greedily.

These precious fragments of a new world.
