Seriously... My opinion on the reveal.
Hi PLL redditors,
So... I watched last night's episode and honestly I really want to give my opinion. It will be a sort of recap ? I don't know, I just want to express my thoughts.
Okay. So first of all, the opening scene was amazing. I was excited to see how all of this was going to fold up. It was a good idea, and reminded me of 4x24 (great episode by the way !). I was instantaneously hooked up : "How did A end up there ?" "Will he/she really jump ?"
Then things started to get worse. The liars went to the lair, okay. But a thought : WTF is that equipment ? Like, it's PLL, writers, not Star Trek. And I would understand if A was some kind of great scientist. However, A, as we all know now, is CeCe. A normal person, like you and I. I get that she can have a good equipment, but that machine was some kind of futuristic stuff. And Mona who casually controls this machine, a few keyboard manipulations and voilà, you're on Rhys' profile. Normal. That's what I wanted to talk about the most, because it seems unimportant but in fact I was so distracted by laughing out loud to this that I almost forgot the reveal.
And there we are.
CeCe is A. CeCe is Charles, and Charles is transgender. And Black Veil / Red Coat is Sara. Shower. Freaking. Harvey. Please no. Pointless character number #6268826, hello.
I am disappointed. Vanessa Ray is a good actress, so she makes it seem okay, but I don't think many people realize this is totally messed up. Marlene kept saying that the "who" wasn't important, and the point was the "why", and I believed her. But when I realized that CeCe was Charles, I directly understood that the "why" wasn't even important. I get that this is about bad parental, but it just doesn't make sense.
Vanessa doesn't look like a boy. At all. Dre Davis would have been ten times more believable. And the story... boring.
I don't feel sorry for CeCe. She dated Jason. That's insane and terrible. And just for that, I can't feel sorry for her. Maybe I am stupid to believe that. But she dated her brother, and lied to him, and she's a boy. Jason dated his brother. That's incest 0.0 and disgusting. There are people complaining about Ezra and Aria's relationship, saying it's gross etc... (I'm not of them, I love them and in my opinion this relationship is kind of okay now) but ugh. If this happened to me, I would want to commit suicide. Really.
I know the show is directed by Marlene King, who is pretty active in the LGBT community. I am not sure whether she tried to make a big shoutout to transsexual people or to show it ain't easy but okay to be transsexual (I'm even wondering if it's not for the money) . But this reveal wasn't a good idea. CeCe always seemed bitchy. Remember when Lucas was in that boat with Hanna ? Brendon Morrison was intense. And I felt bad for Lucas, he seemed so desperate. Wren could have been great too. But I don't know why, I can't with Charles/CeCe.
Last thing. Marlene said that the audience had grown up so she would do something more serious. Haha. Nah Mar. This episode, in my humble opinion obviously, was cheesy. It's not even dark, it's messy. The hologram was cringy. CeCe who says everything ? Why now ?
I am only 16, but I think this show isn't for me anymore. It's becoming more 12-year-old-show than ever.
Going back to watch True Detective (extraordinary by the way, a wonderful show), Breaking Bad, Homeland, Mr Robot, The Fall, Sherlock. Those are great.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Pretty Little Liars fandom, and particularly this subreddit. You are all awesome and funny, and I spent hours here theorizing and laughing (Toby Babe and Shower Harvey). I won't quit this subreddit at all, and I probably won't stop watching this series either, I am curious about the time jump.
Don't hesitate to give your opinion too. :)
P.S. : I have a project : because I have been disappointed with this finale and a great number of choices regarding the romance (Emily's love interests, duh), the red herrings, and much more, I will be trying to write a "fanfiction". Basically, a darker, less teen focused story. The concept is very interesting, and it's a shame that the writers didn't explore the potential of this story. I'll keep you in touch, obviously.
P.S. : I apologize for my english, and the possible mistakes. Like I said, I am only sixteen year-old and I am not a native english speaker. Thanks for understanding guys :)
