"Bowling etiquette"

So my mom's part of a bowling league in which she gets 21 free games a week for practice and whatnot, but she never uses them, so while my boyfriend and I were visiting my parents, we decided to go bowling while she was in her weekly game.

So we pull up to the Brunswick Zone. For those who don't know, it's one of those chain bowling alleys. For FAMILIES. There are always a ton of kids and families and generally people who are terrible at bowling because people are just there to have a good time.

Not Travis and Carol. (Names changed for privacy?? idk.)

My dad, my boyfriend and I got in a lane and were getting our shoes on and all that fun stuff, and we're watching Travis and Carol bowl while we're waiting for our food. They're really good and we're impressed. Our food is taking forever so we decide to start playing.

We play a game or so and suddenly Travis comes over to my dad and says something to him. My boyfriend's bowling and I'm not really able to hear that well, and my dad's not really paying attention because Travis was kind of being an asshole so Travis leaves and my dad explains that he was saying that we shouldn't be standing anywhere near him while he's trying to bowl because it's "bowling etiquette" and it's distracting to him or something like that. We'd been standing by the ball return on our turn waiting for the other people beside us to go and wait for our ball to get back, etc. We were in no way standing anywhere that could be distracting to him. And he wanted us to wait until he bowled, came back, shined his ball, and went again until we went.

We didn't change much, but he didn't come over to us again, so I guess it worked?

And as he went back to Carol, I heard her say, "That's what we get for coming to open bowling."
