Looking for advice on searching for a new job.

Currently, I am 18 years old, living with my parents, working part time as a dishwasher making 10$/hr. I am going to college soon, and I am looking to increase my income due to college expenses, and possibly moving out in about a year. I know my area has a very good job market, but unfortunately I don't know where to start. I'm hoping to make 12$ an hour, or maybe get a job that gives tips/commission. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
