General guidelines for determining if something mechanical is patentable?
I designed a mechanism at my job, nothing revolutionary but it's a unique application and that I highly doubt exists (very niche). It's not clear to me when a configuration of common components of linkages/springs/gears/actuators goes from clever design selection to patent worthy invention. For a start I'm wondering how to determine if it is worth the effort.
