#OVERVIEW OF NEW ENGLISH POLITICS

####MAIN POLITICAL PARTIES OF NEW ENGLAND

--

NAMEHOUSE SEATSSENATE SEATSVIEWS
Democratic Party10451The party promotes a center-left, social-liberal platform, supporting a mixed economy and social justice. The party's philosophy includes modern New English liberalism, which advocates for social and economic equality, along with the welfare state. The party pursues a mixed economy by providing government intervention and regulation in the economy. These interventions, such as universal health care, labor unions, social programs, equal opportunity, consumer protection, and environmental protection, form the party's economic policy basis.
Republican Party5929The party's platform is generally based on New English conservatism, in contrast to the contemporary New English liberalism of the rival Democratic Party. The Republican Party's conservatism involves supporting free market capitalism, limited government, strong national defense, opposing regulation and labor unions, and supporting socially conservative policies.
Libertarian Party146The Libertarian political party promotes civil liberties, free markets, and laissez-faire. The party is more socially liberal than the Democrats, but more fiscally conservative than the Republicans. The party has generally promoted a classical liberal platform, in contrast to the social liberal and progressive platform of the Democrats and the more conservative platform of the Republicans. Current policy positions include lowering taxes, allowing people to opt out of Social Security, abolishing welfare, ending the prohibition of illegal drugs, and supporting gun ownership rights.
The Enviromentalists1810The party promotes environmentalism and social justice with policy principles in nonviolence, grassroots democracy and participatory democracy, LGBT rights, gender equality, and anti-racism. It's "Ten Key Values" are Grassroots democracy, Social justice and equal opportunity, Ecological wisdom, Nonviolence, Community based economics, Gender equality, Respect for diversity, Personal and global responsibility, and Future focus and sustainability.
The New English Christian Party10The party believes that the Republic of New England is a Christian nation founded on the basis of the Bible and that jurisprudence should be restored to what the party claims is its "Biblical foundations". It has been described by its critics as a theocratic and Christian nationalist party, as with its predecessor, the U.S. Constitution Party. It is dismissed as a "radical party" by most politicians in the Republic.
Maine Progressive Party32The Progressive Party encompasses a social-democratic and populist platform. Major policy platforms are renewable energy programs and a phase-out of nuclear energy, public transportation proposals including one for a high-speed rail system connecting to the existing New English network, criminal justice reforms directed at reducing the state's prison population and better protecting convicts' rights, the creation of programs to end homelessness in the state, and ending the War on Drugs. The party was a strong advocate of the recent education bills passed in New England. The party also has an anti-war stance, advocating for Maine's national guard to be restricted from engaging in war zones outside of New England, and an opposition to all 'preemptive' wars, strikes, or other military actions. The party is very supportive of LGBT rights, and members of the party were involved in the legalization of same-sex marriage in the country. The party's main focus, however, is a push for independence from New England in the Northern parts of Maine, and inclusion in Canada. It is semi-popular in areas such as Aroostook County.
Independence Party of Connecticut12The Independence Party of Connecticut tends to lean conservative with regards to taxation and other fiscal matters. For example, personal responsibility is a core principle of the party as is a government that is fiscally responsible: equitable in its collection of taxes, careful in its spending, and honest in its financial reporting. In social policy the party tends to take more liberal-libertarian positions on issues such as abortion, gay marriage, and civil rights and liberties. One of its core principles is that all citizens deserve equal rights, protection, and opportunity under the law. Simply put, the party is fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

####2028 NEW ENGLISH ELECTIONS

"Good afternoon everyone, it is election day in the Republic of New England, and people have been streaming in and out of the voting booths all day. If you haven't yet voted, you have precisely 180 minutes, or 3 hours, to do so. Seven candidates are in the running, and although only two are projected to garner the majority of votes, certain other parties could be able to drum up some interest. Before we show you our first projections, we will give everyone a chance to meet the candidates!"

"Now that everyone knows exactly who they are voting for, we are glad to show our first projections. Here they are."

  • Massachusetts to Morse
  • Connecticut to Morse
  • Rhode Island to Morse
  • Vermont to Morse
  • New Hampshire up for grabs
  • Maine to Bingham

"We will be here through every step of the election to bring you live coverage of election night as it unfolds, and will keep you updated on all of the twists and turns that are sure to come. Thank you for choosing NECN, the priemier for your election night coverage. We'll be back after the commercial break."

The news anchor's image fades, and a giant coffee cup sporting the letters DD comes on.

UPDATE ONE

The two anchors appear back on stage, looking slightly excited. They shuffle their papers and look at the camera.

"Welcome back to NECN 2028 Election Coverage, we have just received word from our reporters at polling booths in Vermont and New Hampshire. In New Hampshire, democrat Alex Morse is pulling ahead, a massive blow to the Republican Party, as New Hampshire was considered a must-win for Ryan Bingham. The Republicans must hope that two out of the three Southern New English states manage to fall their way. In Vermont, however, we have shocking news coming out of the polls. It seems as if the people are favoring the Environmentalists, a party that has gained a head of steam in recent years. This will surely be a blow to the Democrats, who are still the favorites. It seems as if anything can happen. Here are our newest projections.

  • Massachusetts to Morse
  • Connecticut to Morse
  • Rhode Island to Morse
  • Vermont to Chipman
  • New Hampshire to Morse
  • Maine to Bingham

UPDATE TWO

Again, the scene fades in to the news desk, where the anchors look rather shocked

"Well, we have received news from our reporters in Connecticut about another unprecedented result. With only about an hour left, it seems as if the Libertarian, Andy Borsa, has garnered enough support to take the state. This takes the Republicans almost completely out of the race, unless they somehow manage to take Massachusetts. However, remaining consistent with the unpredictibility of the election so far, we would not be surprised if that did happen. Anyways, here are our newest projections.

  • Massachusetts to Morse
  • Connecticut to Borsa
  • Rhode Island to Morse
  • Vermont to Chipman
  • New Hampshire to Morse
  • Maine to Bingham

FINAL UPDATE

The anchors sit at the desk. Behind them a map of New England with all the states in different colors is projected. The map shows the final results of the elections.

"Hello all, the votes have been tallied, and we are proud to bring you the results of the 2028 Presidential Elections! Please allow us to introduce the new president of the Republic of New England, Alex Morse, and his vice president, Caleb Willett. Join us in our summary of each state!

  • Maine to Bingham: The state of Maine was projected to be Republican long before the elections began, and unlike most other states, did not flip. This state granted 18 electoral votes to the Republicans.
  • New Hampshire to Morse: New Hampshire has always been an important swing state, but never has it been more important than now. The Democrats stealing the state from the hands of the Republicans proved costly for the GOP, as New Hampshire was the difference between the two parties.
  • Vermont to Chipman: The Environmentalists managed to take the state of Vermont, in a move that although surprising, can not be called completely unprecedented. Vermont has always been on the left side of the spectrum, and the Greens saw this and ran with it.
  • Massachusetts to Morse: Massachusetts has always had a slight majority of Democrats, and this showed this year. The most boring race of the six states ended with a comfortable democrat victory.
  • Connecticut to Borsa: In a very surprising move, the Independence Party of Connecticut merged with the Libertarians, giving them a very strong presence in Western Connecticut. A three way race ended with the Libertarians barely winning the state over the Republicans and the Democrats.
  • Rhode Island to Bingham: This state was another swing state, and in the end the Republicans managed to take it with many rich land owners voting for them. In another universe, this victory may have won the Republicans this whole election, but not in this one.
