Does Heavensward get better?

Right now, I'm slogging through the millions of fetch and kill quests that populate the new areas. They're uninspired, to say the least, but so is sitting in the dungeon queues. The main quest doesn't fare any better, not that I was expecting it to. (the story in the base game was half-baked from the start) I recently did a bunch of chores for ants just to figure out that I could walk into the ant base and have them escort me to their ant god. I think some dragons wanted me to. I'm at the point where I wonder why I'm not just playing WoW, the still reigning champ of quest grinding.

What is exciting about this expansion? I don't think I can continue if the only promise is of more menial quests and a story that never improves.
