[theory] - Jakku is as much of a character as Rey, Finn etc. in TFA
So we've just gotten direct confirmation from JJ. that the nomad lightsaber, sent by Leia to be recovered by Poe is the major plot device that sets up the story arch for the sequel trilogy, is indeed, not just theory, but fact.
But what does tell us about the actual makeup of The Force Awakens?
Something it's widely felt the prequel trilogy lacked, is a sense of character, the feeling of life on the different planets, is created through CGI, the worlds use animated flying creatures or giant streams of flying ships to convey their feel, think about it, you get a much better feel of Tatooine from C3PO and R2-D2 arriving at Jabba's Palace than the marketplace scene in TPM.
From the plot we are able to piece together with the current details available - the lightsaber landing on the surface of Jakku, Finn and Poe crashing in an escape, Rey retrieving BB-8. It's interesting to see that the planet Jakku is more than just a place for characters to interact and develop story, it is a place which greatly effects the makeup of the story. TFA is as much the story of two ordinary people coming into possession of a greatly important object, as it is the story of what happens when an event of great importance unfolds on a simple, unassuming planet. The people these events effect aren't high ranking senators, or powerful Jedis - they're relatable characters with simple lives, all in cohesion with this world that's been developed.
Sorry if that's too abstract, it's just a stoned thought I had that makes me really excited for the way TFA's been written.
