I'm sort of making a mess of myself today in my back yard. Pool party with my wife and kids and some of her work friends. 6 Schell's Shocked, which is a grapefruit beer, then I had a couple bloody Mary's, a fresh strawberry daiquiri, a couple ounces of New Holland freshwater Great Lakes rum, and soon it will be either fighting cock and diet coke or wild turkey101 and diet. The grill is going, we've got about4 dozen bratwurst defrosted, it's 94 degrees and I've got a cohiba gigante in hand. I have not yet begun to defile myself.

You sir, are an American hero.

Check back in with us after you've had too many drinks, and went on a rant about how the blue man group totally ripped off the Smurfs

How's the New Holland rum?

Pretty pedestrian. I'll need to sip on some more in the next few weeks, but there really wasn't anything that stood out about it.

I'm 5 beers deep and cracking open a new bottle of KC rye.

I'm also gonna go track down my copy of Tombstone while I'm at it, I wanna thank you for that.

High West Double Rye right now. I wanted an old fashioned, but realized I don't have any bourbon. :(

Try the OF with a high proof rye. Well worth the effort. I think a rye is typically used.

I'm enjoying Old Charter and ginger ale at the moment, but I'm going to break open my bottle of Weller 12 yr later. Cheers!

Same as you, ECBP 8. Had two 2 finger glencairns of it neat last night. The plan was 1 neat and 1 with a little water, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. What a great barrel strength bourbon. Where do we even go from here?

I for one welcome our new barrel proof overlords.

Picked up a bottle of store pick Knob Creek earlier today. It's one of my favorite 'casual' sips - takes ice like a champ and doesn't require a ton of attention. This particular store pick is super char forward for a Knob, and doesn't have as much of that Beam PB character as I remember from the last store pick I had.

KCSB is awesome IMO. I have yet to try it with one of my ice spheres. Good to know it takes it well. I like the hot cinnamon candy I get from it.

Going tasting at a friends, he asked us to bring "2 bottles you haven't tried before"

So I have a Jefferson's Ocean and a Four Roses barrel pick OESK

I just emptied my four roses single barrel. This makes me sad, because it's only 9:49pm :(

I too just finished the last 2 ounces of my FRSB :(. I have a case of six coming, but it will be a few weeks till it gets here 😕 (I'm in Utah and the DABC doesn't allocate FR so I have to order by the case each time)

Well here's to us. I've consoled myself with rye

Just finished a glass of Whistle Pig 10yo, near the end of the bottle, it's superb. Following it up with some Noah's Mill, because I want to make space on the shelf and that's my best reason to return to this bottle.

Reviewing a trio from the Journeyman Distillery. Odd drams.

Nothing special, Stagg Jr batch 4 (heavy 3 finger pour) followed with a Jefferson reserve...because, well. ..you can't really finish anything spectacular after a nice barrel proofer

High West Bourye. I'm trying to decide if it's worth the extra price over HW's Rendesvous rye.

1
aesthetic-as-fuck•

IMO no. I think HW does rye fantastically, but the bourbons are just okay. Probably just bias as I prefer chewy and okay and HW bourbons are on the lighter side.

1
pais_alto•

I'm inclined to agree with you. Some years ago I tried the first bottling of Bourye when I was in Saly Lake City and was really impressed. It immediately became hard to find so I've been waiting since then to find it. Desire can cloud your memory. Turns out that, like you wrote, the ryes are where HW shines.

At the in-laws so been hitting my stashed bottle of Knob Creek and assembling tasting notes whilst waiting to head to the Polish Church Festival where I will have about a dozen Yuenglings and some blinis and kielbo.

I'm gingerly finishing off a bottle of Stranahan's I bought 3 months ago. Easily the longest I've held onto a bottle. This one just wasn't my style, too astringent, too much banana. If I have Stranahan's again it'll be just a glass.

Just took tasting notes ( I really don't like doing notes -- life, it is so hard!) on AAA 10YO and VOB BiB 6YO. Working my way through notes on a Ballantine's 17YO bottled in the '50s (pre-WW2 distillate!)
