What is the weird wailing sound?

Observation

Just picked up the game even though I've been lurking in here from time to time since the beginning. The first thing that struck me aftet playing a bit is this weird wailing sound that will appear seemingly anywhere at any time with any character. At first I took it for being distant traffic, but it's not at all predicated on having a highway nearby.

I'm sure it's been discussed already, but searching the sub for "weird sound" is pretty hopeless. Did anyone ever get any clarity on this?

It sounds pretty much like a whale. If you youtube "strange sounds heard around the world" you'll come up with something similar; https://youtu.be/-1IIUcNI0cw

What is the weird wailing sound?

It's the sound of 18,000 GTAV players crying over our missing jetpacks. :-(

Sounds like a motorcycle, or other loud vehicle, accelerating at speed then changing gears.

I've heard it before in-game myself in the past. I can't say I've ever thought anything different when I've heard it.

I think it's everywhere, but easiest to hear in quiet places. This would explain the conflicting reports between mountain peaks and city alleys.

Good luck though, we need more hard evidence.

I just caught the noise. I was in a low pop area so you can hear it well. as far as I can tell it's just car noises. Editing and posting it now.

They are just car noises, almost every NFS made by Black Box had them.

Yeah, could very well be just generic traffic sounds. But it really stands out and I'm fairly sure I heard it in Sandy Shores and further north on island as well. Could be mistaken of course, but I'll definitely keep tabs on it from now on.

I hear this every night.

Its either a v10/v12 supercar or some heavily boosted i6.

Sounds like a Entity XF

I found some interesting files in the iFruit app for the iPhone.

Theres a bunch audio files that are titled car*_distant_#*

For example Entity_distant_01

Almost every car has one and even cars that are not currently in-game.

What kinda not included cars? Can we get some model names?

As of now I spotted the zombie a motorcycle from GTA IV and the Turismo which is also from GTA IV.

Holy fuck yes. I have always wanted a customisable turismo. Always wondered why that car wasn't brought over from gta4 like the sultan n futo were.

I think you are talking about the "Air Raid" horn sound. An alarm to warn people that the invasion is coming.

Does the sound you heard have several 'vocalizations'? That is, does it play one continuous sound or are there 2 or 3 noises?

I was doing some chillaxing at the Hippy Camp, just waiting places until times, you know. I heard a very odd sound, much like this one; my immediately thought was Godzilla rising from the ocean, a large whale, etc. It occured at 1 am on the dot, so I reloaded the save and was unable to hear it. I just thought it noteworthy as with all the train traffic in the area, normally it would be hard to hear anything, but this came right in a traffic lull (maybe I was lucky) so I heard it clear, and was able to turn a bit and work out it was coming from the Alamo Sea/Zancudo direction.

Glad someone else has heard it. If I still had good enough internet to stream everything I did I'd have footage.

Afaicr it has like 2 or 3 crescendos, yeah. We chalked it up to being revving bikes, but it's indeed a very curious sound part due to it being heard pretty much anywhere on the map. Haven't heard it in or on the water though.

I've always kinda thought it odd how clear and solitary it was for being in a high traffic area.

Some theorize that this is the Wow! Signal; you may need to bring the space docker to the locations where it is heard.

Please see this thread by u/renegaderule.

While that is an interesting post, it is not the sound I'm referring to. It's much more like a wailing whale with a distinct crescendo. First thought was the doppler shift from nearby highways, but its more like a very faint, giant trumpet. Its heard pretty often, but mostly after I change character. (not exclusively though)

Interesting, is there a possibility you can record a video of this so others can take a listen?

HaerverkOP•

Been trying to spot it in gameplay vids to no avail.

I gotta be lucky to catch it as it only lasts 5-10 sec, but I'll give it a try.

Good luck, I think I've heard what you're talking about if it's any consolation.
