(Belated) Motivational Monday - Tomorrow is World Suicide Prevention Day. Let's reach out.
Hi everyone, apologies for the late post this week. Today let's talk about something really important in our community: suicide prevention.
Thursday, September 10, 2015 is World Suicide Prevention Day. Since 2003, WSPD has taken place every year on September 10.
This year's theme is "Reaching Out and Saving Lives". From the International Association for Suicide Prevention's (IASP) website:
The act of showing care and concern to someone who may be vulnerable to suicide can be a game-changer. Asking them whether they are OK, listening to what they have to say in a non-judgmental way, and letting them know you care, can all have a significant impact. Isolation increases the risk of suicide, and, conversely, having strong social connections is protective against it, so being there for someone who has become disconnected can be life-saving.
It's also important to reach out to suicide survivors and other people in the community who work in mental health. If you want to learn about WSPD activities taking place all across the world tomorrow, here is a list sorted by country.
What does suicide prevention mean to you? Why is this day important to you?
