Trying to take a trip for two from Pennsylvania to Colorado. Anyone have an idea on how to make this cheap???

I've tried looking at flights, then hotels and it all just keeps adding up. I understand a trip for two people wouldn't be cheap, but boy is it expensive!!!

Was wondering if anyone had any experience with cheap travel? I would go by car, but I'm certain it would be even worse! Never been out of state so I'm really trying to work this out before the dead line haha.
