Is it cheaper to build an underground house?

I've always wanted an underground bunker style house. Would this not be significantly cheaper in the long run than a normal house?

I'm not sure if the initial cost would be higher or not, but wouldn't the money saved on heating and cooling be pretty drastic? And not having to pay to take care of the out side of your house, not having to worry about storm damage etc.
