Can someone tell me what are the effect of China westernizing in Victoria 2 for the world economy?

Vic2

I am playing as Japan and the Qing have conquest Dai Nam and Siam and a bit of Burma and the Bengal.

If they westernize should I expect an economic boom?

If they Westernize, they will pretty much be world shattering in power. Both in military and economy, if you were wondering.

Do you think that will be good for my Japanese industry?

No. They will outproduce you to a ridiculous degree. Everyone will by Chinese stuff, and they will consume many resources. Though, typically my experiences with China are in the early game, so it won't be as bad as I'm making it out to be. Probably. So, to make a long story short, even if it doesn't hurt you, it will in no way benefit you.

You probably want to conquer some of their land either before or just after it happens. You will not be able to defeat them at all in the later game otherwise.

You are exaggerating, he will be able to beat them, it'll be hard but not THAT hard

Oh, it'll be hard. China's army at the start banks on being to big to fail, but when they Westernize, the "too big to fail" strategy goes up to eleven, as eventually they will be able to fight on a 1 to 1 ratio.

China will mass-produce the shit out of everything, driving down prices of most goods (industrially produced, that is.

Most of the time China Westernizing has two main effects;

  1. A lot more raw materials become available on the world market.

  2. Their army becomes annoyingly strong.

AI China basically never becomes an industrial juggernaut in my experience. Their literacy is just too low and the AI isn't really competent enough to raise it in the game's timeframe. Sure it makes logical sense that they would develop huge industries, but it just doesn't happen in practice.
