Free clothes, shoes, furniture, even food
I'm a landlord (landlady) and property manager. When tenants move out, sometimes they leave behind all sorts of stuff -- clothes, books, shoes, furniture, even canned food. I have to do "trash outs" which means getting rid of everything and getting the place cleaned up so I can move in a new tenant.
Being a frugal person myself, I generally try to donate as much stuff as I find to Goodwill, or post the stuff on Craigslist (in the free section). My current person that does it will go through and keep stuff for himself before throwing away the rest.
On the last trash-out, the tenant left SO MUCH stuff in the basement that we threw out about 4 garbage bags worth of clothing. I was able to save a whole box of baby clothes which I gave to another tenant, but my guy was unable to sift through everything so most of it went into the trash.
If you're looking for something to occupy your time, consider helping with trash-outs and you might be able to salvage free clothes and other stuff. As far as furniture, you want to be careful because things like couches and beds might have bedbugs (you don't know the tenant). Run the clothes through a dryer on high heat to prevent bringing home bedbugs.
