How do I keep the fees from getting worse?

I checked on my debit yesterday and saw my checking at -$40. And the kindhearted souls at BofA like to add $10 or $35 to that here and there.

I got a job, but my first paycheck won't come for three more weeks. How do I freeze my account, or keep the payments from getting worse?
