What do you guys do for sneakers/cross trainers?

Hey r/frugalites - I'm looking for brand suggestions for simple athletic shoes. I don't need anything fancy, but I've been burned so many times buying cheap pairs of sneaks. They are uncomfortable from day 1 and the tread is made out of eraser rubber and wears down in a matter of weeks of light use (Note: Never buy the Target brand shoes).

Are there inexpensive sneakers that are comfortable and last? Or is this just something you have to spend lots of money on?

Edit: OK, the Nike outlet seems pretty popular. I will look into that. Keep those suggestions coming.
