Anyone's experience with maintenance dosage medication?

My therapist thinks I should get on a "maintenance dosage" of anti-anxiety medication. My anxiety, panic, and dread have been daily and since I'm starting my first year of college and living away from home on Saturday, she thinks a low dosage would be good to keep my head in check during the transition so I'm able to complete everything I need to, and raising the dosage if needed.

Has anyone been on a maintenance dosage of any medication like this before? She didn't specify any brands or any numerical dosage but it sounded like a term that's used widely. Sorry if this is too vague
