18 year old, really scared of University.

All my life I've known the shit position my family has been in , Mom makes under 15,000 a year , brother is a fuck up with a kid at 22 and married, and dad is not in the picture. So the only way Ive known to climb the social ladder is to attend university and major in Engineering and have a salary that would be at least quadruple of my mother. I'm on the my path by attending UCSB this fall.

Though after having to take this Haven Sexual ed course and Alcohol edu course, I am terrified of false rape charges. One hookup at a party and my whole future could be gone with a false rape charge.

Is the whole party/hookup scene even worth it in my position ? I wanted to join a frat as well but they seem to be the main targets.

Is there anything wrong with just focusing with my school work, gym, connections , basically monk mode for 4 years ?
