[Bay Area California] Questions about statutory rape & child pornography

I am currently in a long distance relationship with somebody I really like. We met while I was on the east coast and had a wonderful time . We have kept in contact and decided we wanted to see where things went. I am only a few months younger than her, but we have been doing some stuff on Skype for a few weeks now. After doing a bit of research I don't really know where the lines of where we can go are? Currently we are both 17 however she will be turning 18 in a month while my birthday is not for nearly a year. Is it Illegal for us to do this while one of us is 18 and the other 17? Can we send pics to each other without getting in trouble for child pornography? I shared this with her and we have both taken a step back and kinda kept it a bit less intense for the past few days. If anybody could link me to some more info on this subject I would really appreciate it.
