Contributor Spotlight #4 - Richard Corben

We all have our favorite visions of the Turtles, and those we were first introduced to and fell in love with. The Contributor Spotlight Series is meant to give attention and awareness to the many different contributors who have helped build this universe we all love; to promote discussion about what of their work does and does not appeal to us as fans. This series will not be limited to just the comic contributors, but will also include the cartoons, movies and other media as well.

Richard Corben

Richard Corben is a hugely successful artist who was also a great inspiration of Kevin Eastman. In 1986, Corben and Eastman had teamed together to do the first full color TMNT story which was printed in vol. 1 #7; a story titled "You Had To Be There". Shortly after, Mirage had published the 3rd printing of TMNT #2 which had featured a painted wrap around cover by Richard Corben.

Later in the first vol. of TMNT during the Guest Era, Richard Corben along with Jan Strnad had done issue #33, Turtles Take Time. A great story in which the turtles receive a time cube from Renet and end up on an adventure which takes to pirate infested Portugal, back to the courts of King Arthur, further back to the times of pre-human primates, and even to the point of the big bang.

Richard Corben has won several awards for his work, and he has performed in every role from artist to editor and publisher, though not with the TMNT. Corben's styles have covered everything from realism to horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and even super heroes. He has done cover work for RPGs, paperback books; he has been published by DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, Heavy Metal, Penthouse, and a lot more.
