TOH Screenshot analysis: Simon's Bowblade

Discussion

I've been poring over the Simon's Bowblade screenshot looking for background clues and there's a lot of interesting stuff.

  • Enemy hunter has red eyes and a strange "stretched" look to their face, unclear whether this is an effect of the new outfit, an NPC-specific look or a new mode of invasion/competitive play. If it's a different manifestation of the Plague, what does it mean for the lore?
  • There are some curious root-like structures in the bottom right of the image. Brings to mind the mysterious tower overrun by tree roots you can see from Cathedral Ward. I can't find a screenshot of it but you can see it if you look to the left from the spot where Alfred moves to, the little terrace overlooking the Forbidden Woods.
  • Setting looks to be Central Yharnam but the sepia-tinted daytime lighting is more reminiscent of Nightmare Frontier. Not sure if it's just screenshot editing but it could mean this takes place in the distant urban structures you can see from the Frontier, an alternate Nightmare Yharnam.
  • The bowblade's curvature strongly resembles the warped blade that is used with a shield. IGN has speculated that the Bowblade transforms from this weapon, I don't know if anyone else has. Either way, we can say for certain the Bowblade doesn't count as a LH firearm because the hunter in the screencap is wearing a Blunderbuss on his back.
  • What is that sticking out of the body on the ground? Looks like a vice handle. Could be just decorative; or maybe that's what the end of a Bowblade arrow looks like! Who knows.

Lemme know if you find anything else that I've missed!
