Stuck on naming character: Character Creation/Social Club bug renders Online completely unplayable - Windows 10
I have a persistent bug that was not resolved with the recent update. I have scoured the internet, and I cannot seem to find anybody with a similar issue. I have created a Rockstar Support ticket, but have yet to receive a response since I submitted it 4 days ago. I figured I'd give this sub a shot to see if anybody would be able or willing to help. Thanks in advance!
My problem is two-fold: 1) My in-game Social Club overlay fails to load. Pressing the Home key causes the SC menu to briefly flash, but it disappears before I can interact with it. 2) When creating a character in GTA Online, once I get to the "name character" screen, pressing Enter or submit does nothing. The game continues running, with the avatar moving and fidgeting, but hitting Enter does not submit the name, no matter how long I wait. Pressing Escape doesn't return to the previous screen either. Oddly enough, I have to press the Right-mousebutton, of all things, repeatedly to get back to the character trait screen. As a result, I cannot enter GTA Online.
Below is a list of things I have tried to do to resolve both of these problems (which I am convinced are related):
- verify GTAV game cache on Steam
- reinstall GTAV
- reinstall Social Club via separate .exe download
- uninstall, remove all Windows Registry references to Rockstar and GTA, then reinstall
- tried transferring a ps3 character (stuck on same naming/renaming screen)
- change resolution options
- lower all graphical settings
- ran GTAV in both DX10 and DX11
- ran GTAV, GTAV launcher, and Social Club launcher in both compatibility mode and administrator mode
- ran GTAV in Fullscreen, Windowed, and Borderless Window mode
- disabled all background programs such as MSI Afterburner and Logitech mouse softwares
- tried various wired and wireless keyboards
- tried all mouse input configurations, including Windows, DirectInput, and Raw
- tried remapping various keys, including adding a secondary Social Club UI key (cause the same flashing/closing problem as Home key)
- tried using only wired and/or wireless Xbox controllers for input
- tried various virtual, touch, and macro keyboards, as well as remote desktop control
- ran GTAV with wired, wireless, and tethered internet connections
- disabled firewalls and virus protection
- installed latest Nvidia drivers
My system: i5 3570k (not overclocked), Gigabyte G1 GTX 980ti, 64bit Windows 10 Pro, 16GB DDR3 Ram, Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe Mini ITX motherboard
No mods, no bans. The only thing left, in my mind, is Windows 10 itself, but I've seen plenty of people online who can play just fine with Win10 and I'd really rather not mess with downgrading just yet. Again, thanks in advance for your help everyone!
