Is it immoral to have children of your own?

All

Contraversial title, but I'll explain what I mean.

Right now, this very instant, there are 100's of 1000's of children all across the world and in a orphanage near you in desperate need of loving parents, doomed to spend their youth either stuck in a orphanage or bouncing from foster home to foster home.

Knowing that, is it truly moral for a couple to create life from themselves to love instead of adopting someone who already exists right now who is in desperate need of love and care already?

I know that when it comes to children we are creatures of instinct and emotion, and the urge to procreate from your own seed is a powerful one, but though we are animals, we are intelligent ones, and capable of rejecting our instincts for the greater good. So few of us do though.

I'm interested in different religion's take on this, and non religious as well. What do you think?

My own opinion is that knowing how many poor unloved children are out there and even very near YOU right this instant, it is almost obscenely immoral and selfish to create a life from your own loins rather than adopt, but that's what so very many people do anyways . . . to the orphan's of the world's detriment.
