The Books Ruined the TV show...

I started The Strain watching season 1 first. I have been reading the books since Season 2 started. The further along they get into the TV story, the further they get away from the books. It's quite frustrating. The TV producers and writers (including Chuck Hogan) are creating all new story lines and characters to the point where it doesn't follow the books at all. Dutch, Coco, Councilwoman Feraldo are essentially new characters that were not in the books--even Eichorst has only a small role in the books.

As I was digging the TV show in season 1, the books ruined season 2 for me. Has this happened to anyone else?
