[College Algebra] Clarifying my Factoring Brain fart
Hey guys, i'm reviewing for our test tomorrow and i've stumbled across something that may come across as a stupid question but i'm having a total disconnect currently and can't remember how this works.

This is a more lengthy, all complex solutions quadratic i'm working out, and i can't for the life of me understand why/how this negative one is being removed from the problem. I factored it out to stop the leading coefficient from being negative but i'm not sure what's happening between these two steps that removes it.
The way i'm thinking currently, multiplying that negative one through would change the terms inside the parenthesis but this step by step shows that the negative 1 just disappears without changing what is inside the parenthesis that it's attached to.
Sorry for the dumb question, this is just one of those things that has a simple answer but i'm completely blanking out on it.
Thanks for your time!
