Anyone think Socrates is a Narcissist?
Does anyone notice Socrates is somehow a Narcissist? So today I was having Philosophy class, and professor starts to say Socrates is "wise" and the wisest person in Athens. It was okay but he seems to claims to be the wisest person in Athens, because he "keeps finding people who are wiser than him", and "sadly didn't find anyone who is wiser". When he fails to find anyone who is wiser, he KEEPS FINDING. "No! There MUST be someone wiser, I CAN'T be the one wiser!" He keeps "testing people" and asking numerous questions. "Why are you eating?" "Because I am hungry." "How do you know you are hungry?" "Because my stomach feels so." "How do you know the stomach the way you feel is hungry but not full?" He asks numerous questions until people were annoyed and yelled "stop!!" He refuse to take any money so he lived poor, versus the sophist were rich. (Reminds me narcissist love to claim "high morals") Now, I don't know Socrates, nor did I start reading his work, by Plato. But while I wrote "question everything, test people, annoyed them, never apologise<this was the key point, excessive compete in wisdom." I immediately thought of "Narcissist". He is "annoying but charismatic". There's so much about Socrates, I thought he is somehow a narcissist. The "interesting" fact is, my mother somehow says similar things as Socrates. Not to mention she always ask (unwanted) questions, but she is obsessed with the idea "wisdom". She thinks I need wisdom more than therapy... which serves her purpose of course. I'm thinking of making this a creative thesis topic since I'm familiar with Narcissist and it's been all over my live.
Any thoughts?
