Sudden hair loss

Over the past 4 months I would say, my hair has been falling out in handfuls. I've only recently delved deeper into treating my PCOS and have start seeing an endocrinologist in the last month. After some hormonal panels were done, she started me on a low dose of spironolactone (25mg) mainly for my acne (I'm also on yaz). When I brought up the hair loss and asked if Spiro would help, she said something to the extent of, " well nothing in your blood tests have indicated any reason for the hair loss, so no, Spiro will have no effect on that". Despite this, I've heard on here that Spiro can help with that symptom. However at this point in time I'm confused as to if I should still be looking at PCOS for the culprit? I've always taken supplements for my hair and have always babied it and done everything in my power to keep it healthy. It's naturally thick, as is with every woman in my family. So what gives?
