Do the rankings between Uni's really matter in NZ?

As i'm currently applying for the main 3 universities in Auckland, I want to know reddit's opinion on uni rankings are after I saw this herald article yesterday.

Given that I live on the shore, Massey would be a lot more convenient for me or is Auckland University worth the daily commute for the name on the piece of paper at the end?

Personally, I think in the future job market, domestic and international if I was to worry about my degree being from a "low ranked uni" I would be studying in the wrong country.
