Chapter 1: A new beginning to the end
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7207791/1/From-Fake-Dreams
Ah yes… I remembered as to how this reeled me in. Being introduced with a Kiritsugu who is being fed information from “The Three Routes,” and it’s only 3 years after the 4th Holy Grail War. This story had a great premise and foundation: What if Kiritsugu properly trained Shirou the best he can before he died of the curse? Well, onto the review.
Reactions (in order)
-
We are reminded of the feats that Kiritsugu Emiya has accomplished in his prime, including killing his father in his Dead Apostle studies, earning his title of “The Magus Killer,” killing Natalia, and who can forget, the 4th Holy Grail War, letting Maiya die, letting Irisviel die, his final commands to Arturia, and who in the world could forget where Shirou’s motives and ideals were born in the first place? Fate/Zero wasn’t released first, but we gotta start at our roots.
-
Alright, so we see as to why Kiritsugu didn’t really give Shirou something to focus on, since one, Kiritsugu doesn't exactly have a field of Thaumaturgy, and two, Shirou barely had any aptitude to begin with. Gradation air is Shirou’s obsession, but considering that Kiritsugu believes that a Holy Grail War happens in at least 40 years, and the fact that he believes that Shirou won't need to fight in the future, it's understandable that he won't put Projection + Noble Phantasms together.
-
The roots of every single route are shown to Kiritsugu. Gae Bolg on the night on the summoning, Excalibur being used to destroy the Grail each time, Trace, On, etc.
-
Damn, while we are at a Third Person Limited view of Kiritsugu in these chapters, you really have to wonder how crushed he must have been, realising how careless it to set everything up to prevent a future war, only to find out that his decisions were the wrong ones. He sees how fucked up Illya becomes, and not only that, he realizes how much he fucked over Shirou, in terms of ideals and his aptitude as a magus. Shit man, that would crush me as a parent.
-
Hah, what a nice touch. Not only does Shirou constantly have to wake up his father from his slumber on the porch, but his supposed guardians can’t even use the kitchen properly. “I’ve had enough fires in my life.” Damn, that’s one morbid line of comedy. Here’s the real way you create a protagonist with proficiency in the kitchen, guys. Blow up Sehai-kun, cause a large scale city fire, and rescue a boy with the sheath of King Arthur. Then you keep triggering the kid's PTSD with fires in the kitchen until he's desensitized to his trauma and adapts to natural selection. IT ALL MAKES SENSE!
-
Jesus, Kiri! You teach a boy scout how to start a fire, but you don’t realise he tries to make a fire out of leaves when he’s got plenty of firewood on his back? Well, at least you taught him how to start a fire…
Alright, so Kiritsugu’s gonna formulate a plan to prepare Shirou with the last flames of his life. He knows of the supposed 7 servants to be summoned in the years to come, he knows Gilgamesh is still alive, the fact that Kirei will fuck with Shirou for his own enjoyment, and as far as he knows, he himself doesn’t have the capability to train Shirou to his full potential… At least, not on his own. The Magus Killer isn’t one who was known to swallow a situation without trying to make an impact. Stay tuned.

Points of Discussion
Alright, so we found event that cause this specific timeline to split off. Kiritsugu has dreams, specifically of the 3 routes. But there’s a giant elephant in the room that has been hiding from plain sight with some damn good camouflage, and it only hit me as I reread this entire thing a couple of months back:
What in the world caused Kiritsugu to have those dreams? The possibilities that I came up with are:
- r/FateStayNight is leaking.
- Akasha/Alaya in some manner? I'm not even sure what to guess here when it comes to them
- Zeltrech is trolling and creating his own timelines
- Intervention of the Oogakari family, the Third Fang original characters, originally appearing in YAWLEH (Yet Again, With A Little Extra Help.)
Now, the last one is a theory that I came up with on my own. While Third Fang has explicitly said that there wouldn’t be any appearances of these characters in this specific story, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t responsible. Let me start by explaining who they are:
They are a family of 5 people who are pretty much godlike and immortal when it comes to their power levels. They are capable of feats like
- traveling in between universes, including animes like One Piece, Naruto, the Fate verse, and even reality.
- They have accomplished feats like applying a sort of Second Magic effect in the Naruto universe, * one of the family members replicating Unlimited Blade Works,
- altering said replicated UBW to be able to record swords from the Bleach universes,
- go to the realm of reality to see the source material for Naruto to see what events they could fuck up in their new timeline,
- and, the biggest one that causes some sort of suspense of disbelief, freeing Heroic Spirit EMIYA from the Counter Force.
While yes, after 600k+ words, there hasn’t been hide, hair, nor reference of any of these characters in FFD (abbreviation for From Fake Dreams,) it is not unreasonable that the very same author would have made it so that they caused the creation of a very prosporous and very specific timeline that Zeltrech would be very interested to see.
Now, that last theory is very far fetched in my opinion, and at most has a 5% chance at best of being the case, but it is my favorite theory of how Kiritsugu got ahold of those memories by far.
TL;DR Godly anime universe hopping Original Characters by Third Fang happened across this timeline, and decided to force Kiritsugu to dream of events of Fate/Stay Night routes.
What do you guys think caused this epic butterfly effect?

Alright guys, keep in mind that this is an exposition chapter, and this is one of the shortest chapters in the entire story. I promise you that things won’t be AS nitpicky and specific with certain quotes when things really start kicking into gear when we get to the beefy chapters. At the very least, I try to appreciate the smaller things that were apparent in his writing style, since there wasn’t much to point out. I mean, Third Fang stuffed 600k+ words into 40 chapters! And he didn’t do so carelessly, mind you.
Chapter reviews will be centered around the “bigger picture” once we get out of the Prologue Arc and get into the Preparation Arc, but I hope to find a format that works better on the long run. Hopefully this was good for a pilot launch, and I hope to improve as time goes on. Any constructive criticisms will be appreciated, and if this thread caught your eye, don’t feel shy to read the story. It’s S-Ranked, I promise. :)
