Do I need to dial 1 before calling a VOIP number?
I am new to VOIP and trying to switch from landline. I just installed a new Obihai device using one of their approved providers. I have been testing it to see if I like the sound quality from both ends before a port my landline number. So far, so good.
The only thing I do not like so far is that when calling my VOIP number from my landline phone I have to dial 1 before the area code otherwise I get an error message saying the call cannot be completed (when calling from a cell phone 10 digit dialing works, don't know if android adds the 1 automatically). I have no idea if this is because it is a VOIP number or the VOIP server is outside of my area (have no idea where it is at) or what. The VOIP number has a local area code. My area has 4 different area codes; the last one was added about half a year ago. I can call local numbers with just 10 digit dialing without the 1, it is only my VOIP number that I have to add the 1 (I have no idea if I have ever called another VOIP number).
I can dial local numbers from my VOIP phone using just 10 digit dialing without a problem. The VOIP number was provided by the VOIP provider so I dont know if I'll have the same problem with people calling my VOIP phone from a landline after I port my current landline number.
