[Spoiler](#s "Red and Blue Pill")

Its probably been brought up before, but the foil of Mr. Peanut Butter and Bojack very much so mirrors the blue and the red pill of the Matrix movies.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_pill_and_blue_pill).

PB originally seemed to be a character that unwittingly fails to see the world around him. Now we know he can see the world around him, but chooses to take the blue pill to remain in his happy zelda world.

BJ on the other hand clearly at some point took the red pill to realize the world around him is messed up.

Good example of this is the Uncle Hanky episode with the awards show part. Nothing groundbreaking, but thought this was a good way of explaining their different approaches to the world.
