Racism or sad truth?

Today I was talking to another Sauder student, and he was telling me how it was easier for him as a white person to get a job and make his career than I, a brown Indian. In a way, I know it's true, but it just bothers me to think, that white males, especially in Sauder where there are so few, benefit so greatly, whereas as the minorities, which are in a way the majority at UBC suffer from this. Am I being paranoid? Was that an example of racism? Feeling confused and sad.
