formal wear for fine dining in hot weather?

I'll be going to Hawaii for a vacation with my girlfriend. We're going to a restaurant that requires formal wear. I don't have a lot of formal wear in the closet and might have to do some shopping. What is appropriate attire for fine dining in hot weather without having to spend too much?
