[rant] International keto

My stats: f/24yo/5'3"/127lbs/week3 ^they're not so impressive.. but I'm doing this diet because I feel better cutting out sugar and if I lose a little bit of thigh fat in the process, that would be ok. Just wanted to share with someone who actually understands the diet just how perfect Italy is for my new keto run. Olives? Mozzarella? Pancetta? I'm eating all of my favorite things in their freshest and most basic forms. I tried keto for a while in the US about a year and a half ago and it went alright...but I was mostly eating walnuts with coconut milk and stevia, refusing to give up on the concept of cereal. But here the culture is more focused on enjoying one particular taste. For example, here, it is common to go out to eat and order only a "second course," which is some type of protein (and just protein--no potatoes, vegetables or anything else comes with it). I utilize going out to eat as an excuse to try a new sausage or a meat that I don't have the patience to make myself. Like any diet, of course, we have to "suffer," and being on keto in Italy means missing out on the pasta pizza and gelato, which although is delicious (obviously), is more difficult due to the social consequences than the actual refusal of sugar. Going for a pizza or going for a gelato is extremely standard business over here, and explaining a low carb diet to an Italian is like trying to explain vegetarianism to a wolf. I wouldn't say that I've lost any friends or anything yet...but I definitely miss out on these sugary social gatherings. It's only week three for me so hopefully everything will normalize itself.

Also, this is my first-ever reddit post. I've now entered the online keto realm; if I lose all of my friends to keto, I'll still have you guys. ;)
