Let's Talk About the Intentional DQ Finish in Huge Matches (As well as other finishes)
This is something that I'm shocked they don't use more. When I say it like that, I mean an intentional, blatant finish, and not like a "Dusty finish" or a finish involving shenanigans.
Examples: Seth Rollins faces Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble. After 25 minutes or so in a match that drains Roman and wins over the crowd, Reigns go for the spear, misses, but then catches himself. Reigns then turns around and bam Rollins hits a low blow right in front of the ref to see to get intentionally DQ'ed and keep the belt. This seems like such a HUGE way to get heat, and I for the life of me can't figure out why they don't do anything like that more. It's also an EASY way to extend the feud into another PPV. Have the babyface win the rematch and then do the blow-off in a stipulation match of some kind.
Another old school booking trick that I don't see used anymore is the "time limit." How awesome would it be if Owens dirty finished and won the Intercontinental Chmpionship on Sunday at Night of Champions and Ryback invoked his rematch clause the following night on RAW. Have them both go and then abruptly after 15 minutes the ref stops the match. Owens could then cut a promo next week about how when they signed off to do the match beforehand, there was a time limit stipulation added.
Everybody would complain about how idiotic these endings are, but they are more legitimate than screwy interference and ridiculous circumstantial endings and endings like this happen to PROTECT both guys as opposed to hurting them.
It's just the little touches like that I miss.
TL;DR: There are match finishes that protect both/all wrestlers in a match more that the WWE doesn't utilize enough anymore.
