Discussing Money and Careers, Bragging, Subtle Bragging, Jealousy
I'm 25 and everyone around me brags about money and their careers. Growing up I was told it was never necessary to discuss money with strangers. My parents are wealthy and I feel like I get a lot of respect because of this. I hate talking about what my father does for a living because I was always taught that it is no one's business.
Now that I'm older it seems like the first thing people will tell you is about how rich their parents are, where they own properties, and which businesses their parents own.
Backpacking through europe I noticed how everyone was subtle bragging to us. i.e. "Omg, it's so annoying how many passports I go through, I fill up all the pages so quickly." and "I hate flying first class, the chef comes out and bows before my feet and it's so awkward."
Also many people I know exaggerate how amazing their careers are, also how much money they're making.
I also noticed people will hate you, out of jealousy if they find out you "have more" than them.
I was wondering what your thoughts were on any of these topics. I have used bragging on many occasions to get people to like me better, but I want to be smart about this. And yes, I bragged and subtle bragged in my post.
