Just finished Far Cry 4. Is it worth it to go back and play the earlier versions?

I was told (somewhat wrongly) to not go back and play borderlands 1 after playing 2 and the pre sequel. I know that Far Cry has a different story line each game. My question is, does Far Cry 3 deserve a chance? Because I want more.
