Opportunities to further the goals of Transhumanism with a mechanical engineering degree?

I initially began to pursue my mechanical engineering degree because I believe humanity's future is among the stars and I plan to do what I can to further this goal, inspired by NASA, SpaceX and Sagan. I'm a sophomore now.

I wasn't aware of Transhumanism as a movement when I first began, but I had more or less reached many of the same conclusions myself (Sagan's Pale Blue Dot aligns with the vision of Transhumanism almost exactly in many ways.)

Anyway, other than working in space science, what are some other ways a mechanical engineer could help with Transhumanism? I suppose I could also do some of the same work as a biomedical engineer after some experience, but I'm wondering if I've missed anything less obvious? I feel like I'm one of the only engineering students at my school who is there for pretty much entirely idealistic reasons (there are a few others), and I am absolutely determined to make an impact in the future of our species.
