Halo vs HIDs

Just got a 2015 1LS. I was hoping to get some aftermarket lights but don't really know enough to make the best decision. My friend has a 2013 RS 1LT and she swears by her halos. All other cars I've owned had HIDs. Is there a dramatic difference between the two or are they more or less the same? I'm also hoping to get some fog lights soon but my friend said that HIDS run too hot to use for the fog lights so my best option was LEDs. New to the camaro game so any info you could share is appreciated!
