Is it okay to leave 1/4" cables plugged in to a mixer and interface all the time?

A friend's lending me his desktop and with my current set up I want to play the audio from both my laptop and the desktop through the same speakers. I got the whole thing settled out now but I don't know if it'd be good for the cables to leave them in the interface and mixer all the time. I've read read that for amps/pedals/instruments you shouldn't leave the cables plugged in because they can get damaged, and that's happened to one of my cables before. I won't mind if I gotta unplug the cables but I'd rather not have to take them out.
