Identifying an old mech series that may or may not be Evangelion

There are two scenes I remember that may not actually be from Evangelion since I haven't seen it yet.

The first is the female lead getting into her plug suit-esque costume in preparation for the mech and scolding the male lead for peaking.

The second scene is one of the mechs which do look like the size of an Eva, landing on top of a battle cruiser in a crouching position in the middle of the ocean.

Should be a series from around the year 2000 or before.

Edit: Thanks for the help!
