"Stop making platformers!" ... So do I just drop everything and start over?
I finished listening to this panel and it was very informative for me in terms of procedural generation, which I personally love.
However, there was one comment that stood out from me, and it was "Stop making platformers!".
I have never made a full game. Its always that vicious cycle of "Have a great idea, code that idea, realize it sucks, go back to square one".
Now I hit a wall and cant think of anything worthwhile to make until I browsed through and found my old "platformer basics". I figured I can improve the code because the old one was four years ago and I have improved since then.
I improved it to a point where I had some great ideas to add to the code. It felt like I finally found the one true project that I can finish, then I watched the panel, THEN I read about the whole thread about the squid game that sold low because it was a generic platformer.
So... Am I just wasting my time?
EDIT: Thanks for the kind words. Raking in cash wasnt the reason I started coding games, it was about the fulfillment of creating a nice game people can play. I guess as long as I get my feet wet on actually creating and finishing a game then itll be just fine to continue.
