What do "progressives" think of gender?
So, I had the misfortune of stumbling upon a "gender expression" thread in the discussion SRS sub. OP asks, "Why do we need gender expression?" which is a pretty interesting and reasonable question in itself, even if you go with the faulty assumption gender is an actual, innate thing.
Turns out, the question is the best part about it when their own non-answers show just how full of shit and aware of it they are. Some of these people don't even try to deny they are gender essentialists, and even go as far to ask what's wrong with it. The whole thread is a shitfest but here's the top comment for your enjoyment, and by that I mean rage fuel.
We don't need it. We don't need to do away with it completely either, though. Many of our current prescriptive gender roles are fucked up. That doesn't mean all gender roles or expressions are fucked up. There's no reason to take gender away from people. You don't have to identify as anything, if you don't want to, but other people do want to do that.
For someone interested in social justice, they seem awfully reluctant to actually consider in a critical light and analyze the whole concept of "identifying" which is, unlike sex, an actual social construct. "It should be that way, because it is that way!!!1" said the progressive. Someone actually typed that with a straight face. Or was it a pansexual genderqueer face? We will never know.
